Am I Too Old to Try Jiu-Jitsu?

Many people assume that Jiu-Jitsu is a sport for young people, and that they are too old to start training. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. Jiu-Jitsu is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, and there are many benefits to starting training at an older age.

A perfect example is Ron, our oldest member. He is a 65 years old Blue Belt that trains consistently 3 times a week After taking a 3 year break from training during the pandemic he recently decided to get back on the mats and give it another go at the age of almost 66! Ron and I crossed paths and began training together back in 2016, so when he reached out to me about training again I knew it was my responsibility to give him a safe place to train! Ron is truly an inspiration for me and so many others.

Tips for Starting Jiu-Jitsu at an Older Age

Start Slowly

If you're new to Jiu-Jitsu, it's important to start slowly and listen to your body. Don't push yourself too hard, and take breaks when you need to. As you get more comfortable with the sport, you can gradually increase the intensity of your training.

Find the Right School

Not all Jiu-Jitsu schools are created equal, so it's important to do your research and find a school that's a good fit for you. Look for a school that has experienced instructors, a welcoming environment, and students of all ages.
